“Money Talks”

The title to this writing comes from the very first lyrics of a fabulous song by the great “Neil Diamond”. “Forever In Blue Jeans”.

I have been a life long admirer of this artist. He can perform, write and compose, not only with enthusiasm but with passion, flare and energy. My beautiful Dad introduced me to his work when I was young. My memories of putting Neil Diamond records on for him when he got home from work. My dad worked long hours and was a great provider for his family. I felt he needed something to welcome him home after a long day at work. On the sleeve of the record was a picture of the star, and inside the lyrics to the songs. However this particular song was not on the album my Dad had. I think it was written and recorded at a later date.

The memories continue. I was at my Dads joinery workshop one day when this song was released and I distinctly remember my dad making a rather large window. It must have been rather heavy to handle. For some reason (I cannot tell you why, I am no joiner) he turned the window over, as he did he burst into song “Forever In Blue Jeans” he sung. I was about ten!!! Life sometimes gives you memories like this to hold onto. I saw my Dad at work with wood all my life, but this particular moment has stayed with me. He always wore blue jeans for work, I thought he was talking about himself!!!

Life goes on. I remained passionate about this artist and have many compact discs of his work. The song in question releases a passion in me, it makes my heart beat faster, I have a need to play it as loud as I can… Marvellous, simply marvellous.

The lyrics themselves have so much meaning. They say “Money talks, but it don’t sing and  dance and it don’t walk, As long as I have you here with me, I’d much rather be, Forever in blue jeans”.

How many people these days can say that? I know for a fact that I can. Through my life I have had thousands of pounds thieved off me one way or another. I don’t like to see people struggle, so I have leant them money. Have I ever seen the money back??!!! I was unfortunate to marry wrongly the first time, my sensitivity took over and I made a man rather wealthy. This has taught me lessons. I am no fool, if these gestures have helped people in some way I am grateful. Money has spoken to me like the song says. It is only money. There is so much more in life. Without these people I would not recognise that. There is compassion, friendship, love to ones self and to others. There are open doors where inside you find warmth and companionship. These things money cannot buy. Why? Because they are far more valuable than all the gold in the world.

I have to be honest here. I am now married to a man who has wealth. A very shrewd man. They say opposites attract, he is not as generous as me to the public. However extremely generous to me. He makes money work for him. We could afford a lot more in life than we have or do. this does not matter, I knew nothing about my beautiful husbands investments, shares or financial situation before I married him. I married him, because he was the best thing that had happened to me in a very, very long time. money did not talk, and like my Dad, he is forever in blue jeans!!!

Two fantastic men who look after me, wear blue jeans and know the value of life is so much more than numbers on paper.

“Money talks

But it don’t sing and dance

And it don’t walk.

As long as I have you

Here with me

I’d much rather be

Forever in Blue Jeans”

And not designer ones at that!!!
